IDOL PH TOP 20 Solo Round: Performance Commentary (Girls)

I KNOW! It’s been ages since I last wrote about our Idol Philippines’ hopefuls. Been busy for a month.

But yes, I’m so back! And I can’t contain my emotions on how things turned up.

Ninth to perform is Jeremiah who sang “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith. Another good performance. But then again, good is not good in this state of competition. I know she can do better than that. Nevertheless, my respect and love for her did not vanish. I still love her!

Sixth to perform is Michelle who sang “Banal na Aso, Santong Kabayo” by Yano. I am impressed by the raspy voice and her, branding herself as the rock Idol. Even though she showcased her power, it just didn’t connect. Maybe the nerves got into her, as well as the insecurities of being of her age partnered with her weight. I just hope that she did let go all of these during her performance so us, the audience, felt that umpf. I still wish the best for her.

Elle singing “Ride” by Twenty One Pilots is a refresher. A breather! With all honesty, Elle is growing on me. Like why in the world that I just noticed her now! It’s her style of singing, her packaging and more so her personality that magnets me to listen and be pleased that “hey, she is an idol material”. I’m confident that she’ll do her best and make it a point that she’ll bring variety and uniqueness to the competition. She is in my top 5!

Trish was next and she sang “One Night Only” by Jennifer Hudson. She wants this. You can feel it! This is kind of Idol that will never stop proving herself that she deserve to be in the competition. I just hope that the Idolkadas will give her a chance as I can see that the votes will be her weak point. I have high hopes for her.

Next is Charmagne, my sentimental favorite. This girl is the kind of Idol that you will root for. Reason why it is so painful to see her sang the song ‘Stand Up for Love” by Destiny’s Child with that voice. Seems that universe slapped her that this is not yet her time. Still, I admire her for her courage to go on. Well, she has no choice, she has to perform regardless. If just so happen that her voice is in the right condition, even if she has flats and sharps, surely, the judges will let her in the top 12. We need her in the top 12.

Next is Fatima who sang “Feelin’ Good” by Michael Buble. So far, the most consistent! I love her drive! She’s always on her A-game. You know that she will not give up her spot without putting up a good fight. My eyes are on her.

Third to perform is Rachel May who chose “Maybe This Time” by Sarah Geronimo. She did well. Good. But in this stage of competition, good is not enough. The song is too safe for her provided that she can definitely sing everything with that voice. I mean, c’mon! Her supporters deserve better than that. If Charmagne didn’t have challenges with her voice, I don’t think Rachel May made it to the Top 12. I hope she can choose better songs in the live shows. I have faith in her.

Last to perform is Sheland who sang “Clarity” by Zedd. She is my favorite among the girls. This performance is a cherry-on-top. She is my dynamite! It is just so good to the feeling whenever I watched her. Her aura is so delightful to see. Her youth, her smile, her talent and charms, she is an absolute star! I hope she can continue bringing that positive vibes as this will definitely helped her to become the Idol Philippines. I’m a superfan!

Personally, here’s my top 06 based on their performance on this round ALONE.

1. Fatima

2. Sheland

3. Elle

4. Trish

5. Rachel May

6. Zephanie

Now, on to the next post – IDOL PH Top 20 Solo Round - Boys.

Another sentimental favorite is Denize, who sang “Buwan” by JK Labajo. I really do love this girl. But her performance was flat. I am torn actually if it’s because of the song choice or the arrangement. Oh man, another talent that I wanted to see and hear in the top 12 but didn’t make it.

Commencing the Top 20 Solo Round is Zephanie who sang “I Believe” by Fantasia Barrino. Given the fact that it is a big song and Fantasia is a tough act, I don’t think Zephanie gave justice to it. Too soft. But the way I see it, the humility of this kid coupled by her charms can definitely appeal to the masses. She will have the Idolkada’s support. And she’s only 16 and she will improve. A great investment for sure!
