The film started with, with the usual jaw-dropping performance of Beyonce, opening with her signature song "Crazy In Love". And then, everything up to the deepest of my blood, went ballistic watching her perform her number 1 hits, moreso, the eight-month process of making this history. Her power on stage remains unmatched.

Beyonce, being the first black woman to headline the 19-year festival, made her performance a stood out because of how she delivered every inch of her songs and the work behind it heighten the experience. The historically black college and university-themed performance just made a solid statement. The whole idea of collaborating with a black orchestra, drumlines, vocalists, skilled dancers and steppers, pulled-off a dramatic transformation of the Coachella stage into a HBCU campus. Truly, Queen B reshaped her artistry and herself as a human being.

It has been 2 hours and 17 minutes of greatness, awareness and celebration of the African-American community. Netflix had made a significant move that they let us experience Beyonce's prowess in her Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival performance which as much as I wanted to not treat this as political as it can be, the documentary film dares to cross that line.

The concert documentary tackles her struggles as well while perfecting her homecoming. Maintaining a balance of being a performer and at the same time being a husband and a mother to Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir is a challenge and a realization. It mold her into a better woman as she learned to maintain her strength and endurance not only for the job to be done but more importantly, for her beloved family. You can see Beyonce of how happy she is when the kids visited the rehearsals. She indeed is a new woman in a new chapter of her life.

And I quote, "It is hard to believe that after all these years I was the first African-American woman to headline Coachella. It is important to me that everyone who never seen themselves represented felt like they were on that stage with us. As a black woman, I used to feel like the world wanted me to stay in my little box, and black women often feel underestimated.”

Jay Z' support for his wife was undeniably present not only just because he has a special participation in the Homecoming but the sacrifice he did by being with Beyonce during rehearsals. It definitely boosts the Queen's morale which the documentary never fail to showcase. Her sister Solange's all-out support should not be ignored as well as she shared the stage with Beyonce dancing with her. The legendary Destiny's Child (Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams) had again reunited that elevated the energy of the peoplewho had a first-hand experience of their eminence.

HOMECOMING:

A Relevant Grandiose Spectacle

To end this piece, I wanted to share this moving statement from Beyonce herself about this relevant grandiose spectacle- "I wanted us to be proud of not only the show but the process, proud of the struggle, thankful for the beauty that comes with a painful history and rejoice in the pain, rejoice in the imperfections and the wrongs that are so damn right. And I wanted everyone to feel grateful for their curves, their sass, their honesty; thankful for their freedom. It was no rules, and we were able to create a free, safe space where none of us were marginalized.”
