For a big franchise like Idol, you just cannot contain yourself to set the bar so high especially if it involves some of the biggest names in the industry - Regine Velasquez, Vice Ganda, James Reid, Moira and Billy Crawford.

To be honest, the show wasn't able to get my buy-in at first as the teasers and trailers that were used to promote the show before it started airing was a bit off, well at least for my taste. Maybe it's because the editing is not good that everything sounds scripted or it has something to do with the set lighting that it doesn't look expensive at all. Or is it the camera that they used as it doesn't have the crisp that "The Voice of the Philippines" have way back. Or maybe the worst scenario, we just don't have much of an interesting and powerful Idol hopefuls that can help propel the curiousity of our Kapamilyas or the coined term for the show's supporters - "Idolkadas". Or possibly, Idol Philippines is just saving the best footages and auditions for the Idolkadas to experience the element of surprise.

We all know how good Vice Ganda is when it comes to being a judge. She is straightforward, she will let you know the harsh truth but she will be forgiven and can get away with it because she is Vice Ganda. I was hesitant at first that she'll be doing the show because it feels like "Again? Vice Ganda again?" But I realized that Vice Ganda is a need for the show. Billy Crawford cannot do it alone. The show needs a stronger ice breaker so we can have a good laugh while watching it and we need someone to represent us, the normal viewers.

It is so refreshing and weird at the same time to see Regine Velasquez to seat as one of the judges. I mean, she is always the host and the singer but never the judge. I like how her humility still shines especially when she needs to reject some idol hopefuls. She is very careful with her words and tried to sugarcoat it as much as possible. One thing she is not careful at - laughing at Vice Ganda. She can't contain herself. 🤣🤣🤣 But I'm not complaining. It's been a while since I heard the laugh of the queen.

Billy Crawford is the perfect host for the show. I cannot see someone else doing it. Besides, he is a consistent favorite of the franchisors. With all the hosting jobs of Billy, this will not be a challenge for him. We all know that he will do it like it's nobody's business.

IDOL PH Episode 1: Promise of success - The Show and the Judges

With no expectations at all, I watched it out of love for Regine, Vice and James. Speaking of the element of surprise, getting the first-hand experience of it, the first episode is not bad at all. I did enjoy it. It was a good start that it kept me glued on tv as I watched the judges growing chemistry and moreso the Idol hopeful's diversity of character and their heart.

I thought Moira is the most laid back among the 4 judges but it seems like it is still James Reid. She has pieces of comments and reactions that shows her vibrant personality. She is fun to watch and this first episode makes me want to experience that side of her even more.

James Reid is just being James Reid. He is silently strong. We all know that the multimedia prince has a way with words. He knows how to say the things that he wanted to say. Though I should not be suprised because I know this is how James really is when he open his mouth, I don't know but I still get caught offguard of how good he is in speaking his mind. He is upfront, unassuming and unpretentious. So glad that he was cast in to talk more about what he is thinking. Besides, who doesn't want to see James' face on tv.
