Third to go through is, as what James Reid said, a person who is very comfortable with his own skin, Matty Juniosa. This LGBTQ member is the episode's cherry on top. Singing "Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin, you can tell that Matty will be one of those Idols who will let loose on stage as he is a great performer - a showstopper indeed! He went through not because the show needs a person like him but of his innate ability, technique in singing and his beautiful heart. What a great way to end the episode with such a vibrant personality! And a hug from James Reid - congrats gurl! I'm jealous.
If there are three things that are noteworthy on this episode, aside from the Idol hopefuls themselves, is first, Rico Albores, second is Ogie Alcasid and of course, the judges.
IDOL PH Episode 2: Legacies
Personally, Angelo should not go through as I think, like Juancho Gabriel, the longevity and consistency is questionable. But Moira, being the third Yes that Angelo needed to get through, gamble on his potential which earned him the Golden Ticket to Idol City. His father, Arnel Pineda, is a lot of pressure but I hope he finds his niche and not waste the chance that was given to him. As they said, "seize the moment!"
James Reid reaction when Ogie Alcasid entered the audition room was priceless! I've never seen James laughed like that. It was in anticipation that it was really an Idol hopeful who will enter the room because the judges had placed their bets if the next auditionee will be so good or not, cute or not that they even look the other way just to surprise themselves that it was Ogie Alcasid. That part ended with so much mushyness as Ogie sang "Kailangan Kita" to her wife Regine Velasquez and greeted him a very Happy Birthday sealed with a kiss. Happy Birthday Songbird!💋
I like the fact that the Idol judges were more expressive now in giving their professional comments on the auditionees. They made strong, credible remarks in this episode which highlights the show's authenticity. The judges that we have are not playing just for the sake of the show's rating. They know what they are looking for and they are particular with it. It was so good that their opinions varies from time to time and were not being caged.
On to the next episode!🎤
So episode 2 is done. And by the looks of it, the Idol Philippines is slowly releasing the goods that the show and its viewers deserve. Episode 2 just made a mark!
The show started with an Angelo Pineda who at first sight, looks like a high school student who only plays his guitar just for fun. Not a kid all along, this 22-year old made a strong start on his audition singing 'Heaven' by Bryan Adams and I expected that he'll bring us to the clouds as his voice is so modern - the kind of voice that we can hear on the radio. But things get a little shaky at the middle through the end which made the judges hesitate if he is ready to get to the Idol stage. But then, Vice Ganda gave him additional 10 seconds to prove his worth.
The second to go through is a daughter of a name we are all familiar as well - Mau Marcelo, who happens to be the first Idol from the Philippines - that is when the show was called "Philippine Idol" and aired on TV5. Well, as Vice Ganda said "Very simple." And I'll not make it complicated as well - this 16-year old is an Idol material! Her packaging was on point. Young and hip. Her choice of song "Sirena" by Gloc-9 signals that she is an unpredictable Idol who will put something new to the table. She has that promise of surprise. Admittedly, this is the first time that I get excited with an Idol hopeful and looks like we got someone who truly deserves to be on the show. The passion is there!
Rico Albores, a man who went viral on Youtube because of his pogi problems, is an added color for the episode. Honestly, I expected that the judges will be shocked of how good he is because you'll never know. I will not know either as there are a lot of talents here in our country who is unexpectedly good. But it seems that he was really there just to make the viewers happy. A William Hung of this season. Though it felt like he was intentionally invited by the show itself for an added air time, well even if he is, it was worth it as he did really put smiles, not only to us viewers, moreso for the judges particulary Vice Ganda.
